Put an emoji over a face
Drop a photo and every detected face gets an emoji over it — picked from the selector, sized to the face, applied on your device without any upload. It’s the friendliest way to hide a face: playful on kids’ photos, deliberate on group shots, and instantly readable as “hidden on purpose”.
Under the hood this preset does something most emoji-sticker apps don’t: it pixelates the face first, then draws the emoji on top. An emoji glyph is roughly round, and on a square face-box the corners would otherwise leak original pixels — hairline, jaw, ears. Here the redaction never depends on the emoji’s shape.

Where emoji covers shine
Parents covering kids’ faces before posting to family groups or public feeds — the emoji keeps the photo warm instead of making it look like evidence. Sellers hiding their own face in a mirror selfie of a jacket. Group photos where two people said yes to posting and one didn’t: cover that one face with a 🙂 and the photo stays friendly.
The emoji itself comes from your device’s emoji font, so the exact artwork follows your platform (Windows, Android and Apple draw them differently). The redaction underneath is identical everywhere.
Tips that save a re-edit
- Pick the emoji before you drop the photo, or select any box afterwards and change just that one.
- On kids’ photos, 🙂 and ⭐ read gentlest; 😎 suits adults who asked not to appear.
- The emoji auto-sizes to the face box. Resize the box by its corners if you want a bigger sticker.
- Same rule as always: check reflections and part-turned faces, and drag a manual box if the scan missed one.
Before you post: zoom in and check every face, plate and label yourself. Auto-detection is a head start, not a guarantee — a missed face in a shared photo can’t be un-shared.
Frequently asked questions
Does the emoji really hide the face, or just decorate it?
It hides it. The face region is pixelated to a coarse mosaic before the emoji is drawn, so even the sliver at the glyph’s edges shows only averaged blocks. Removing the emoji from the exported file is impossible anyway — the download is one flat image.
Can I use a different emoji for each face?
Yes. Click a face box to select it, then choose an emoji — the change applies only to the selected box. With nothing selected, the choice applies to all boxes.
Why does the emoji look different on my phone than my laptop?
Emoji artwork belongs to the operating system, so the same 🙂 renders in your platform’s style. Whatever device you export from is the artwork baked into the photo.
